⚙️ How It Works ⚙️
Step 1: Sign Up & Set Your Goal
You’ll enter the student’s name, your email address, and find their teacher in the “Select a Class” dropdown. You can also set a personal Read-A-Thon goal in this step - setting a goal helps build consistency, confidence, and strong reading habits. We challenge each student to complete one act of literacy per day during the 14-day event (March 2–15), so we recommend a goal of at least 14 total acts of literacy. But feel free to set an even higher goal if you’re feeling ambitious!
Once you register, your student will have their own personal Read-a-Thon page they can share with supporters to allow them make pledges!
Step 2: Collect Pledges & Donations
Family and friends can support students in two easy ways:
Option 1: Per-Act Pledge
Supporters can donate a certain amount for each act of literacy completed (for example, $2 per act).  They can also set a maximum donation amount if they choose, so avid readers don’t break the bank!Â
Option 2: Flat Donation
Supporters can make a one-time donation to cheer on a student’s participation.
Every pledge — big or small — helps us reach our $25,000 goal and supports important programs at Lyons Farm.
Step 3: Log Your Acts of Literacy
Students/caregivers will log each act of literacy on their personal Read-A-Thon page. Each time you:
Read (a book or any other text)
Listen (to someone reading or a kids’ podcast)
Write (letters, notes, lists, stories – it’s all literacy!)
Complete another literacy activity (get creative – play hangman or try out DuoLingo!)
Be sure to log it on the website so your student collects their pledges and their progress counts toward class participation prizes and schoolwide goals! Watching your progress grow is part of the fun!
